Rapid increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the moderate to strong northerly wind.
Wind slabs on east, south and west facing slopes. From early morning the wind will be moderate to strong adjacent to ridgelines over a wide area. As a consequence of the wind the wind slabs will increase in size substantially. The fresh wind slabs will become increasingly prone to triggering in particular on east to south to west facing aspects above approximately 2200 m. Sometimes the avalanches are medium-sized and can be released easily by a single winter sport participant.

In the course of the day possibly danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached above approximately 2200 m. At the southern and eastern borders of Aran as well as at high altitude snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and caution.
