New snow

 

New snow and wind slabs are to be assessed with care and prudence. In addition gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are to be expected.
Very large quantity of fresh snow and very particularly the extensive wind slabs represent the main danger.
As a consequence of the northerly wind the already large wind slabs have increased in size additionally as the day progresses. These can in some places be released by people and reach large size. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep east and south facing slopes above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation these avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent.

The new snow of the last few days can be released by a single winter sport participant in particular on wind-protected shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. Sometimes the avalanches in these regions are medium-sized and in some cases easily released.

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more frequent gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are to be expected as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones.

Restraint is advisable on this first sunny day after a long period of poor weather. The current avalanche situation calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.
Snowpack
>
50 to 70 cm of snow has fallen since Friday above approximately 1500 m. In all altitude zones a very large amount ofsnow is lying for the time of year. The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow significantly.
Tendency
The danger of dry slab avalanches will decrease.
