Gliding snow
As the day progresses as a consequence of new snow and strong wind there will be a gradual increase in the danger of dry avalanches.
As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes strong northwesterly wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form from the middle of the day adjacent to ridgelines on north, northeast and southeast facing slopes. The fresh and older wind slabs can be released easily by a single winter sport participant above the tree line. The new snow and wind slabs will be deposited on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on wind-protected shady slopes and generally above the tree line. In its middle, the snowpack is largely stable; its surface is loosely bonded and consists of surface hoar and faceted crystals.
